What eBay Can Do >

 Reporting and Tracking Disputes

eBay understands that it’s never a pleasant experience to have a problem with a transaction. Often, the easiest way to resolve a problem is by communicating with your trading partner. For information on how to contact your trading partner, see Contacting eBay Members. However, if you continue to have a problem, you can use eBay’s Dispute Console in My eBay to help track, manage, and resolve your dispute as quickly as possible.

Reporting a dispute

There are two types of disputes on the Dispute Console page:

·       Unpaid Item – As a seller, you can use this to report not receiving payment for an item. For more information, see Unpaid Item Process.   Only transactions with a winning buyer are eligible for a Final Value Fee credit.   Some disputes can be reported immediately after the item closes, but most require a 7 day waiting period. You cannot report a dispute if more than 45 days have elapsed.

·       Items Not Received or Significantly Not as Described – As a buyer, you can use this if you have not received the item, or you felt the seller misrepresented the item in a way that directly affects the value or usability of the item. For more information, see Item Not Received or Significantly Not as Described Process. You can begin this process at any time between 10 days and 60 days after the listing ended.

·

Note: For both reports you need to provide the item number of the transaction. The item number appears on the top right corner of the item page.

To report a dispute:

1.    Click the “My eBay” link at the top of the eBay home page.

2.    On the left-hand side of the page under My eBay Views, click the “Dispute Console” link.

3.    On the Dispute Console page, select the problem you want to report by clicking the “Report an Unpaid Item” link or “Report an Item Not Received or Not as Described” link.

4.    Provide the item number and follow the instructions on the report pages.

Viewing your dispute status

The Dispute Console offers two views:

·       Unpaid Items

·       Items Not Received or Significantly Not as Described

To select a view, on the Dispute Console page, click the appropriate link in the Dispute Console Views section on the left-hand side of the page.

Each dispute is organized into columns, detailing the date it was opened, the other party’s User ID, and the dispute status. The dispute status tells you if the dispute is open or closed, and whether you need to take action on it. You can view the entire dispute by clicking the “View dispute” link.

In the Unpaid Item view there’s an additional column which shows whether or not the item is eligible for a Final Value Fee credit, or if credit has already been granted.

Closing a dispute

To close a dispute:

1.    Click the "My eBay" link at the top of any eBay page. You may be asked to sign in.

2.    Under the "My eBay Views" section on the left side of the page, click the "Dispute Console" link.

3.    On your Dispute Console, click the "View" link next to the item you wish to close.

***Important***

If you close the dispute when there is no check mark, you will not receive credit for the item.

4.    On the dispute page, click the "Close Dispute" link and select the reason you are closing the dispute.
