Web Page Design (Creating Your Own Web Pages and Sites)
Four, 2-hour classes
Fee: $20
Prerequisites:
All of the following (or equivalent experience):
- Computer Intro (or Intro to Personal Computers 101 and 102)
- Windows 1 (or Windows 101)
- Windows 2 (or Windows 102 Files and Folders)
Expected knowledge, skills, fluency ~ this is not a beginner's class:
1. Basic computer skills, including mouse and keyboard use; minimum 20 words/minute hunt-and-peck or touch-typing; file management, including navigating to specific folders using the <Save> and <Open> dialogue boxes; Copy/Cut/Paste commands.
2. Basic word processor skills; frequently prepare letters, other documents, formatted e-mail, etc.
3. Basic web browser skills (Netscape, Intenet Explorer) and general familiarity with the World Wide Web, how to use it, and how to find things.
4. Come to class with a concept and text for a simple web page -- a personal web page with family info and photos; a club or other organization web page, etc. Text and images can be on a floppy disk in any word-processor format of your choosing.
Course Description:
In this class you will gain confidence in your ability to perform the following tasks:
1. How to create web pages
A. using a simple text editor
B. using a WYSIWYG web page editor (a word-processor for web pages)2. Web sites
A. Links, anchors, and targets; hyperlinks: linking pages together
B. Organizing web sites on your hard disk
C. Uploading to a web server3. Design of web pages and web sites
4. Preparing images for use on web pages: scanning, cropping, sizing of the images
