Do you have “Equivalent Experience” for the training classes you want to take?  Here is a handy check-list.

 

Some of our courses for Personal Computers (not Mac) require that you have taken certain prerequisites or have “equivalent experience.”  Check your own knowledge and skills to determine if you are ready for these courses. 

Skills needed in order to take Windows 1 or E-Mail 1:

Understand the function of the components in a typical computer system:  System Unit, Monitor, Keyboard, Printer, Mouse

Click, double-click, or drag the mouse to select items, access a shortcut menu, open a window, or move or re-size an object.

Use a standard keyboard to enter or edit text and move a cursor.

Know the “look and feel” of the Windows operating system

Skills needed in order to take Windows 2, Computer Security, or Healthy Computer:

Identify the graphic elements on the Windows desktop: icons, wallpaper, taskbar, start button, system tray, open window buttons, time/date.

Use the Title bar, Maximize, Minimize, Restore, and Close buttons, menu, toolbar, scroll bars, and status bar in a window.

Change the view of a window to thumbnail, icons, list, details.

Use Start > All Programs to access applications.

Skills needed for almost all courses other than those mentioned above:

Save, copy and paste data between the hard drive and external media

Create folders and subfolders for organization of existing and future documents and files.

Use the Windows Explorer to manage files.
