Price reductions by Verizon and price increases by Cox have resulted in DSL service now being less expensive than Cox's cable modem service. Verizon is currently offering DSL service with the first month free, months 2 and 3 for $29.95/mo. and $34.95/ mo. thereafter. The DSL modem is included, there is a one time $12.95 shipping and handling fee and ISP service is included.

Current Cox-Internet cable modem prices are $49.95/mo. for an equivalent High Speed Internet service with the modem rental included, or $39.95/mo. if you provide your own modem (currently available from Cox for $75 or elsewhere for a little less. These prices include ISP service and there is no startup fee but you must also be a Cox cable television subscriber.

Cox also has a slower service available for $10 less per month. This service, currently called Cox Interact, claims to have download speeds up to 2 time faster than a dial-up modem. It will be noticeably slower than either the DSL or the High Speed cable modem service.
