Internet Access from
Sun City
Internet access options in Sun City Texas are dial-up
modem service from a number of Internet Service Providers, Cable
modem service from Cox Communications or DSL Service from Verizon.
Regular Cable modem service has been available since August, 2000
and DSL service began in October, 2001. Satellite
service options also exist but they are more expensive

Price reductions by Verizon and price increases by Cox have resulted
in DSL service now being less expensive than Cox's cable modem
service. Verizon is currently offering DSL service with the first
month free, months 2 and 3 for $29.95/mo. and $34.95/ mo. thereafter.
The DSL modem is included, there is a one time $12.95 shipping
and handling fee and ISP service is included.
Current Cox-Internet cable modem prices are $49.95/mo. for an
equivalent High Speed Internet service with the modem rental included,
or $39.95/mo. if you provide your own modem (currently available
from Cox for $75 or elsewhere for a little less. These prices
include ISP service and there is no startup fee but you must also
be a Cox cable television subscriber.
Cox also has a slower service available for $10 less per month.
This service, currently called Cox Interact, claims to have download
speeds up to 2 time faster than a dial-up modem. It will be noticeably
slower than either the DSL or the High Speed cable modem service.
