Requirements for Remote Assistance

        Running Windows XP on Each Computer

        Internet access on each computer, preferably broadband

        Helper and Helpee at their computers at the same time

        Valid E Mail addresses or net messenger accounts

 

Process Simplified

        Helpee asks for help by sending invitation  e mail to the Helper

        Helper responds by accepting invitation

        Helpee allows helper to take control of his/her computer

 

Step by Step process

 

On the Helpee’s computer, set up for Remote Assistance

RC My computer, then properties, then remote tab

Check box Allow Remote Assistance

Advanced button then Check box allow computer to be controlled remotely

 

On Helpee’s Computer Start Remote Assistance session

Start then Help and Support, then Remote Assistance

Select Invite someone to help you

Fill in E mail address in box and select Invite this person

Fill in name, and message including passwords, and time to expire

 

Select Send invitation

Window will come up and select again send invitation

Invitation is now in E Mail program Outbox

Must send invitation E mail from Outlook Express

 

On Helper’s computer set up to take over computer

Find E mail invitation and open; open attachment

Select entry Do you want to connect to Helpee’s computer?

 

On Helpee’s Computer window opens and helpee must allow the computer to be controlled remotely

 

On Helper’s Computer Select Take control icon

 

Now can access any program or file or the internet

Download programs and run them

Initiate any diagnostic or cleanup programs

Transfer files to helpee’s computer

 

To end the session click ESC button or disconnect
