Start Device Manager

•      Right Click My Computer

•      Left Click Properties

•      Select Hardware Tab

•      Device Manager Button

•      Shows devices attached to computer

•      Shows device adapters attached

•      Shows system devices

•      Yellow circle on device or adapter

    Probably driver problem

•      Red Circle on device or adapter

    Device or adapter not working

Start Event Viewer

•      Open Control Panel => Administrative Tools => Computer Management => System Tools

•      Application Log

•      Shows failure and alert messages related to applications

•      Security Log

•      Shows failure audits and errors and alerts related to logons and passwords

•      System Logs

•      Shows failure audits and errors and alerts

Start System Monitor

•      Open Control Panel

•      Select Administrative Tools

•      Select  Performance

•      Right Click item to “add counters”

System Monitor

•      Shows resource/ usage levels

•      Graphical display of parameters

•      Can show problem areas

•      Many selectable parameters related to several areas of the computer hardware
