  BASIC PHOTOGRAPHY --
or How to make better pictures of your grandchildren and everything else.
Outline of presentation given by Burt Anes, February 3, 2004

Controlling the Shutter Speed
- controlling a moving subject

Controlling the Aperture
- affects depth of field

Not using flash indoors for people pictures

"Big Heads"
- use moderate telephoto and come in close.

Rule of Thirds

tiff vs. jpg - full pixels vs. compressed pixels

Lighting
- If you must use flash indoors, to help eliminate red-eye, put on all the lights in the room, don't have the subject look directly at the camera, and shut off the multiflash mode.   Use flash outdoors to reduce shadows on face.

"Seeing the picture"
- be ready, with a camera

Take a lot of pictures
- one advantage of digital storage
