Copy -- Cut -- Paste

OBJECTIVE:    Learn how to Copy, Cut and Paste

 

DEFINITIONS:

Copy will make a copy

and leave the text in the document

       Cut will make a copy

but remove the text from the original document

       Paste will insert the copy at (flashing) insertion point

 

1.    Using the Word Processor that comes with Windows  -- "Word Pad"  Click on:

              “Start” Button

                     “Programs”

                           “Accessories”

                                  “WordPad”

 

2.    COPY, CUT & PASTE

              A.   Select Text

B.   On the Menu Bar choose Edit - & select either Cut or Copy

OR RIGHT CLICK and select copy or cut

              C.   Copy will leave the text in the document

              D.   Cut will remove the text from the document

              E.   Save item in memory

F.    Place insertion point where you want text to appear.

              G.   On the Menu Bar choose Edit - Paste

                     OR  RIGHT CLICK and select Paste

              H.   Universal to all programs on system

 

3.    Selection

A.   Easiest Way to highlight is with the mouse, just left click & drag

B.   Shift together with "Arrow Keys" will also select

              C.   Select All will highlight the entire                                    document.

                     When you highlight, there is no longer

an insertion point because the next character you type replaces the whole selection.

(Be very careful when the whole document is highlighted)

D.   To Unselect items - move the mouse pointer to a blank space in your document – Click

E.   Key strokes  (note them under “edit” on Menu Bar

F.    Clipboard

Maintains last text, even after Paste is used.  Will keep until another cut and copy command is used or turn off system.

              G.   Don’t forget “undo”

       A.   Move words, lines or paragraphs

       B.   Make several copies

       C.   URL's
